The Grand will be your fantasy kingdom for a day – and a very special place to return to for anniversaries in years to come. Can you think of anything more appealing than that? Your day begins with a red carpet arrival. You’re greeted by door staff in traditional attire and offered a glass ofChampagne. You and your guests then move to the drinks reception in the lounge or Grand Bar. The sense of anticipation is growing and the lavish setting only adds to everyone’s sense of how special the day is. You have your photographs taken on The Grand staircase – one of the most beautiful settings in the city – and then receive your guests on the circular first floor landing. When you enter, you’ll notice how light simply floods into the room, illuminating the immaculate table settings and creating a wonderful sense of space. The speeches won’t be the first given in these rooms – they were designed for rhetoric, so your guests will be able to hear every word. If you choose to extend your day into the evening, you and your guests can continue into The Grand Bar or lounge, while we prepare the room for your evening celebration.
At The Grand, ‘off the shelf’ simply isn’t part of our vocabulary. To us, a wedding can’t be packaged, only sketched. It’s you who adds the colour which brings the day to life – though, of course, we’ll help you every step of the way. Our Head Chef will create a menu with you. That’s right, ‘create’. Think of your favourite restaurant, a cherished holiday, a shared culinary passion and then see it brought to life as your fantasy wedding menu. Our Wedding Planner has years of experience of planning perfect days and they’ll make sure that everything goes smoothly. Every detail will be taken care of and every moment of the day planned to perfection. On the day itself, you will experience service that simply isn’t a part of everyday life. Everyone from the doorman, to the all-knowing concierge, to the immaculate waiting staff will add another touch of the unexpected, the unforgettable and the unique. You will experience service that simply isn’t part of everyday life. The pictures of your big day are so important. They are where your memories will live for years to come. You’ll look your best, of course, but will the setting? Choose The Grand, and the answer is unquestionably ‘yes’. The Grand was built in 1906 and it was a ‘no expense spared’ project. You’ll see that in the mosaic tiling, the oak-panelled walls and the decorative stonework. We’ve carefully modernised the building, retaining that character but enhancing it with contemporary colours, furnishings and artwork and a gorgeous terrace which overlooks the York Wall. Should you want pictures with a back drop that reaches even further into history, you have a whole host of other possibilities – all of them just moments away. For landscaped gardens there’s the grounds of St Mary’s Abbey, for majesty there’s the York Minster, for character there’s the Shambles and for a photograph with a view, there’s the City Wall, which runs alongside The Grand itself. Our wedding planner can also make arrangements for that journey – how about being chauffeur driven or travelling by horse and carriage?”
